Plotinus
Plotinus was born in Alexandria, Egypt in 204 CE. Though he practiced philosophy several years after the Athenians during the Socratic Era, Plotinus also wrote on similar topics such as happiness, and humanity. One of his major ideas was that happiness was mental, not material. Connecting with universe and realizing the big picture of one’s existence would eventually lead to a happy life. His philosophies centered around the idea of unity, and supported the existence of the Monad. First created by the Pythagoreans, the Monad was considered the first metaphysical being, also known as the One.
